| Great Depression | | With the collapse of the stock market in October of 1929, the United States plunged into what is known as the "Great Depression." For over a decade, jobs were scarce, and the effects were felt by the African American community far worse than the population as a whole. America's entrance into World War II, in combination with policies from President Franklin Roosevelt's administration, helped to reverse the economic conditions. |
