On
Tuesday, February 27, 2001 The HistoryMakers hosted a free
public event entitled Three Artists, Three Lives, Three Stories
at the Claudia Cassidy Theater in the Chicago Cultural Center. Photographer
Dawoud Bey, sculptor Richard Hunt and visual artist Allen Stringfellow
shared their stories of finding their path into the world of art
and what it means for them.
Three Artists, Three Lives, Three Stories was presented in collaboration with the Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs, the Illinois Humanities Council and the Chicago Cultural Center. The moderator for the event was Bill Campbell, producer and host of ABC-7s Chicagoing.
This program was developed by The HistoryMakers, a Chicago-based organization founded in 1999 that is committed to preserving, developing and providing easy access to an internationally recognized, archival collection of thousands of African American video oral histories. The goal of The HistoryMakers is to develop a digital video archive that is entirely searchable by image and text of 5,000 well-known and unsung African American HistoryMakers.
