Negro Baseball League legend Leroy "Satchel" Paige died on this date. Paige is best known for his variety of pitches including the "hesitation pitch" and for baffling batters at the plate. He entered the Major Leagues at the age of 42 in 1948 with the Cleveland Indians and helped the team win the pennant that year.
