The National Urban League released its annual report called The State of Black America 2000 on this date. The report stated facts like the unemployment rate for Blacks was still twice as high as for Whites.

| Truman Signs Executive Orders 9980 & 9981

President Harry Truman signs executive orders 9980 and 9981, which establish a Fair Employment Board to eliminate racial discrimination in federal employment and creates a Committee on Equality of Treatment and Opportunity in the Armed Services. While these did not immediately end segregation in the military, they laid the groundwork for this to be completed in a few years.
